Pertussis or 'whooping cough' is a serious disease. In severe cases (where hospitalisation is necessary) it is fatal in 7 out of 200 cases in babies under 6 months of age.
Hepatitis B can be passed from mother to newborn, leaving many of these babies life long carriers. 25% of carriers develop liver disease and up to 25% die prematurely of liver cancer of failure.
Tetanus is most common in adults - Australia has around 10 cases a year, of which at least one person will die.
